Uninterruptible Power Supply

Uninterruptible Power Supply
An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is a backup power system that provides emergency power to connected devices when the main power source fails or experiences fluctuations. Unlike a generator, a UPS provides instantaneous protection from power interruptions, using energy stored in batteries or capacitors.

Main Functions of a UPS
1. Power Backup: Keeps devices running during outages—ranging from a few minutes to hours.
2. Voltage Regulation: Stabilizes voltage during sags or surges.
3. Surge Protection: Shields equipment from power spikes.
4. Data Protection: Prevents data loss or corruption in computers and servers during outages.

How It Works (Simplified)
1. Normal power is supplied to the device and simultaneously charges the UPS battery.
2. If power fails, the UPS immediately switches to battery, often in milliseconds.
3. The inverter supplies AC power to the connected load.
4. When power returns, the UPS reverts to utility power and recharges the battery.
